The Hacienda Tamarindo hotel on Vieques Island was recently featured as one of only three hotels in all of Puerto Rico in the best-selling guide book, “1,000 Places To See Before You Die”.
“Hacienda Tamarindo is lovely with excellent service and architecture and surroundings are uniquely Vieques!”Couldn't ask for more !
My husband and I are enjoying a week at this hotel. Stunning views of the ocean, tasty breakfast with tropical juices daily specials and cafe con leche.
Each room is uniquely decorated and comfortable. A nice pool overlooking the water. Couldn’t ask for more!
“Relaxed vacation setting”
We loved the laid-back vibe of the Hacienda Tamarindo. Staff is superb, and the setting an easy Jeep ride from anywhere you want to go. Quiet at night. Beautiful ocean and pool views. Love the honor bar…and views from each direction. Tasty breakfast. Great folks…made us want to move in permanently!
“Great location with a view”
If you don’t want to risk your life walking to Sun Bay and La Esperanza or depend on unreliable taxi service, you need a car. I would recommend a car to anyone traveling to Vieques, who really wants to get a feel for the island. We had a car, which the hotel personnel graciously reserved for us in advance. You should reserve the car when you book the hotel reservation.
“Friendly staff, great rooms, perfect location”a magical stay
The greeting by the staff and their introduction to the amenities was the beginning of a magical stay. They make it so easy to enjoy your visit to this beautiful island with as much guidance as you request.
Vieques was the highlight of our Puerto Rican vacation — we had such a great time there, we tried to figure out how to stay an extra few nights. Hacienda Tamarindo was a lovely, romantic inn — gorgeous Caribbean views from our room, the staff was so helpful and accommodating, they have snorkel and beach chairs and everything else you would want for your stay available at the inn.
“What a lovely spot…”
They have a cute “library”, with a phone and a “bar” where you fix your own drinks or grab some beers, just sign it out in the book, and they charge you on the honor system. Same with scuba gear, beach chairs, OTC meds, whatever you might need from the “Surf Shop”, just sign it out, and it’s based on the honor system!
“A Wonderful Stay at Hacienda Tamarindo”
What a beautiful property – the room, the patio, the pool – and great staff – concierge/receptionists, manager, owner, housekeepers. We made good use of the beach chair & umbrella rental and cooler that is provided in the room to visit some beautiful beaches. This is a special place on a special island. We will be back.
“Hacienda Tamarindo makes it easy”
“when we came out to drive, our jeep had a flat. We called the restaurant but they considered cancelling our reservations. When we told the front desk, they called the owners, who gave us the use of their car for the night, no charge.
Now THAT is service.”

RUM & REGGAE’S GUIDE TO PUERTO RICO
“We adore the Hacienda Tamarindo, a 16-room Spanish style inn set on breezy rising grounds with sweeping views of sloping pastures and the Caribbean. The Vails are a very amiable and hospitable couple, and their friendly and helpful style as innkeepers is one of the great things about the Hacienda. With it, they’ve created an extraordinarily comfortable and warm environment.”
“…everyone and anyone is accommodated here, and hospitality rules. The best complimentary breakfast of any hotel on the island. The warmth and comfort of this place are hard to forget.”
“Vieques is almost discovered, and the Hacienda Tamarindo is the best B&B inn on the island. The staff was great. For a fascinating, laid-back “time warp,” go to Vieques.”
“A bargain for Caribbean style luxury.”
THE MIAMI HERALD
“delightful 16 room property, known for its impressive art collection and stunning swimming pool.”
“really does have the air of an old, lived-in farmstead-tiny balconies, individually designed rooms, a green parrot that whistles at ladies, and breakfast served under the tamarind tree-that has thrown its doors open to wayfaring guests.”

CARIBBEAN TRAVEL & LIFE
“…highly recommended is the brightly eclectic Hacienda Tamarindo, where decor ranges from kaleidoscopically stone-faced masks to grape and cherub-gilded mirrors. Rise early to grab the best breakfast seat in the house– under the spreading tamarind tree–that gives this laid-back property it’s name.”

“This place is paradise. From the moment my family and I walked in the entrance, it was love at first site. We loved everything about the place. The staff is most friendly and helpful. If you want a vacation of a lifetime, go to Vieques and only stay at Hacienda Tamarindo. We checked all the other inns and this one has them beat-hands down.”
Juan Carlos Suarez, Rio Piedras, PR:

Our Splurge Pick: Hacienda Tamarindo
Perched on a hill just high enough to catch the trade wind breezes, and with a stunning 180 degree view of the Caribbean, Hacienda Tamarindo is the best spot to be, from sunrise to sunset. This 16-room inn is beautifully decorated; each room is originally designed and filled with a unique accumulation of art and antiques. But perhaps the most fascinating thing about this intimate-feeling hotel is the ancient Tamarind tree that grows three stories through the center of the building – the owners couldn’t bear to cut it down, so they built around it!
Amenities include a tempting fresh water pool, a fully stocked honor bar, and boxed beach lunches upon request. Most rooms have AC, and all have hair dryers, beach chairs and individualized beverage coolers you can bring on your day trips. A delicious and generous breakfast is included daily with your stay. For a true splurge, rent the inn’s luxurious private villa, which features its own private outdoor dining room, full kitchen, two bathrooms and porch.
“The place is beautiful and the people are even better. We have returned every year. The breakfast crew is delightful and the day’s special is always an alluring treat. Barkley the sheepdog and Shaboo the parrot conspired to entertain us. Who knew a bird could be a practical joker?”
“My husband and I spent a memorable week at the Hacienda recently. If you want a great cooked to order breakfast and a true sense of Vieques, you cannot go wrong with Hacienda Tamarindo”
