On the island of Vieques there is really only one true B&B. It is Hacienda Tamarindo. The hotel combines 17 lovely rooms with a sumptuous breakfast. Hacienda Tamarindo’s award-winning breakfast is the best way to begin one’s day on Vieques.
Who doesn’t want to be pampered first thing? Awake to the smell of fresh Puerto Rican coffee served with hot milk, or decaf and tea are also available to suit individual preferences.
No continental breakfast here! This Vieques hotel serves a full American breakfast in the hotel’s lovely dining room under the Tamarind tree. One will find a daily special, sometimes served with Vermont maple syrup.
Daily menu items include hot or cold cereals, eggs any style and a choice of bacon, ham or sausage. Toast could be English muffin or local whole-wheat bread made especially for the hotel at a bakery in Esperanza, the nearby Caribbean fishing village.
Fresh fruits abound with local Vieques fruit served in season, along with a wide choice of juices.
Breakfast is cooked and served by local Viequense ladies who aim to insure good service with a local flair. The head cook, a teenager when she started, has been with us over 20 years. Breakfast is a good opportunity for one to practice one’s Spanish.
Should you want to spend the entire day at one of Vieques island’s exquisite beaches — where there are no bars, restaurants or kiosks — one may request a Hacienda Tamarindo box lunch, which comes for one or two in a backpack cooler.
An island vacation should offer the opportunity to partake of the local food and culture. Hacienda Tamarindo serves all that up at the start of each day with the “best breakfast on the island”.
